  • Notes
    • James Blackett (born 1783) was the grandfather of Monica Grace Blackett (wife of James Lamplugh Brooksbank). He was a rich London merchant and weaver, the inventor and owner of once famous "Blacket" cloth, of which smocks and butchers' aprons used to be made. He married Margaret Harriett Ralph in 1806 and they had 12 children.

James had a business partnership in a linen mill at Stokesley with a Thomas Mease. The partnership ended in July 1837 after a financial dispute and the company went bust the following year. However one of his sons, Edmund had fallen in love with Mease's daughter Sarah and earned his father's displeasure by marrying her in May 1842 and sailing off to Australia. Despite the rift there is a family story that Edmund arrived in Australia with 600 gold sovereigns given by his father tied up in a Bank of England canvas bag.
