this photograph of the Cemetery Tavern (132 Beckett Street) was taken in the 1950s before the area was redeveloped. They changed its name to The Florence Nightingale, possibly they thought it less depressing for people visiting their relatives in St Jimmy's, across the street. Anyway the building was wrecked by a gas explosion in 2008.

  • Notes
    • (Research):
The General & Commercial Directory of Leeds, 1834 lists a
Hepton & Barker, plumbers and glaziers at 120 East Street - this was Henry Barker and Thomas Hepton according to the London Gazette when the partnership was dissolved in 1837 and Thomas Hepton carried on that business alone. White's Directory 1837 lists Henry Barker, plumber & glazier, 116 East street, Leeds. At the 1851 Census he is a plumber and glazier at 69 Kirkgate. Could Henry Barker be Benjamin's uncle?
