    • George and Lizzie married on 23 July 1870 in Samlesbury, possibly at the Wesleyan Chapel, following George's return from the long voyage to the East Indies. Their first child Mary was born in 1871.

Their son George Herbert was born the following year in 1876. George died when his son was three years old. Elizabeth and her son went to live with her brother George (see 1881 Census) at 1 Grafton Street, Preston, Lancashire. He appears to have been more or less adopted by his grandfather because the 1891 Census reads Herbert Perry Margerison, age 15, grandson.

  • Notes
    • Brian Jones 2010
"Rookwood" was an iron sailing barque of 770 tons built by Charles Hill & Co in Cardiff in 1869 (at a cost of 11,000). This is presumably why Charles Hill, son of the founder, saw it off on its maiden voyage from Cardiff. "Rookwood" was owned and run by Charles Hill from 1870 until the company sold its last three remaining sailing ships in 1896 in favour of steam.
