    • And the opportunity of succeeding very soon came. In November, 1851, the Vicarage of FROOME (so he himself, after the first year or two, always spells the word), in Somerset, became vacant by the death of Mr. Phillott, and on December 19 the living was offered to Mr. Bennett by the Marchioness of Bath, acting on behalf of her son, who was a minor.

"Rev. Charles Phillott, M. A. Vicar 1807 - 1851 Charles Phillott was absent for most of the time as he held the livings of Badsey and Wickhamford in plurality with other parishes, including Frome (1818) and St Michaels in Bath (1837). He was born in 1774 in Bath and died in late November 1851 in Frome. He married Frances Dorothy Pender in Calne, Wilts in 1809 and they had nine children. As a non-resident vicar he relied on a succession of nine assistant curates to run his Badsey parish.
The inscription on the back of the pair of portraits (records that Charles Phillott was also chaplain to H. R. H. Princess Charlotte. "

    Rev John Penrose heritage
    Rev John Penrose heritage
The Rev. John Penrose (1713-1776) was the gifted son of an Exeter tailor. He graduated from Exeter College Oxford and took holy orders.
In 1737 he married Elizabeth Vinnicombe, the daughter of a priest-vicar of Exeter Cathedral.
In 1741 he was appointed Vicar of St Gluvias, a parish adjacent to Penryn in Cornwall.
He was a friend of the noted Anglican reformer, Samuel Walker, and a member of his “Parson’s Club”. The efforts of Samuel Walker and John Wesley are credited with the 18th Century Cornish Revival which radically changed the moral and spiritual life of Cornwall.
This booklet traces the descendants of John and Elizabeth to 2000
