I have now found the document I mentioned relating to Edward Brooksbank. As I haven't got access to a big photocopier, I've typed it up. Basically, its a questionnaire sent out by the National Society, the educational arm of the Church of England, relating to English education. You will notice that he didn't seem entirely happy with Father.

An amazing snapshot into the inadequacies of the 1813 education system, totally dependent on the all-powerful squire.
