    • The Baron Holderness, patrician life peer, who lost both legs in WW2, and served as a junior minister under four Prime Ministers, died 11 August, 2002, aged 81. Lord Holderness was born 5 October, 1920, as the Hon Richard Frederick Wood, third son of the 1st Earl of Halifax, KG, OM, GCSI, GCMG, GCIE, TD, PC, sometime Viceroy of India and Foreign Secretary, &c, by his wife, the former Lady Dorothy Onslow, CI, DCVO, JP, DGStJ, younger daughter of the 4th Earl of Onslow. Holderness married in 1947, Diana, daughter of Colonel Edward Orlando Kellett, DSO, MP, by his wife (Helen) Myrtle Dorothy, MBE, JP, yr daughter of Arthur Atherley, of Landguard Manor, Isle of Wight. The peer leaves a widow, a son, Edward, and a daughter, Lady Brooksbank, wife of Sir (Edward) Nicholas Brooksbank, 3rd Bt.
