Golden Wedding

is that of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Evanson, Fountain Cottages, Mill lane, Wheelock: They were a little more fortunate than Mr. and Mrs., Warburton, because when they were married; Mr. Evanson was taking home each week fivepence more than Mr. Warburton.

Mr, Evanson (now 70 years old); was born in Crewe, and his wife (now 73 years old) at Goldenhill, but she has lived in Wheelock since she was five years old. They were married at Haslington Church on Dec. 31st. 1900. by the Rev. Mr. Rose.

They started their married life at Winterley. But after six weeks moved, to Far Heath, where they resided for eight years. They have lived in Fountain Cottages for 31 years.

Mr. Evanson worked at Brunner Mond’s Malkins Bank. for 31 years. and when the works closed,. went to Messrs. H. J. Lea,. Wheelock, where he was employed for 10 years. He retired about 10 years ago, but still finds jobs to do especially with local farmers. Mrs, Evanson does all her own housework. and when a "Chronicle" reporter called, she was drying the weekly wash.

When they got married, Mr Evanson was earning 17s. 8d. a week at Crewe works. Although they have had 12 children, they managed to save enough to buy their own house. They have eight surviving children. They are Mary (Mrs A. Birchenough, Price Avenue, Sandbach); Joseph, who resides in Haslington; Nellie (Mrs F. Lewis, Blackpool); Herbert, Newall Avenue, Sandbach; Edith (Mrs A. Sheldon, Crewe-road,. Sandbach, Emma (Mrs G. Bickerton, Wheelock); l.avinia (Mrs. J. Pegg, Derby): and William. who is employed by British Railways at Derby. They have 19 grandchildren, but no great grandchildren - yet,

Six of the children attended a celebration at their parents' home on Christmas Day; the other two, unfortunately, were unable to attend,
