June to Oxford for a week,

August to Plymouth via Exeter and Totness,

early October to Portsmouth,

30 October via Birmingham to Cheadle, Staffs, where he lives with a tutor for the rest of the diary.


April at Cheadle,

July to his home at Clifton,

August to London where Duke of Clarence introduced him to Duke of Saxe-Weimar etc.,

20 September leaves for Weimar via Bruges, Brussels, Aix, Cologne, Coblenz, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, arriving Weimar 11 October.

October A regular visitor at Court, from Sunday 26 October.


June visited Dresden and Berlin and back to Weimar.

December returns home to Clifton by same route.


January at Clifton

February via Paris & Lyons to Geneva;

May returns to Oxford;

July back to Geneva, visits Chamouix and the mer de place.

October to Boulogne and back to Oxford.


Several gaps til


June to Florence, via Avignon, Nimes, Marseilles, Genoa and Pisa.

29 August in Florence heard of his father's death on 7 August, and returned home.

November left Oxford, and at home in Clifton and London until


August a commission as Ensign in the 74th at Perth.
September leaves for Scotland.


March-December at Castletown in Isle of Man.


January stationed at Castletown, Isle of Man;

June six months leave, to Florence via Geneva and Milan;

September to Naples and Rome;

November back in Florence;

December to Geneva, and via Turin to Geneva, where his leave extended, he stayed till 1 February 1830 back to London.


May in Cork, August Limerick.


Spasmodic entries till 3 February 1833 he is promoted and at last returning from Ireland.
